Better Birth Programme
This 4-week programme looks at empowering you to have the kind of birth YOU want. The themes below will give you a look into what the programme can entail but will cover more besides this. It will be an organic and free-flowing programme that allows for honest discussion about pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Each session will be delivered in person and will last approximately 2 hours with refreshments provided.
The programme is aimed at couples attending who are expecting a baby (Co-Parent or Birth Partner) and is priced accordingly. Should this not suit your circumstances please get in touch and we can work together to make adjustments.
Week 1
- Pregnancy - supporting mental health, antenatal and postnatal depression, low mood, anxiety, and anger
- What is a birth and/or postnatal doula and how they can help?
- Signposting to support available in the pre and postnatal season - mental health, breastfeeding support, parenting support
Week 2
- Birth preferences/creating a plan
- Preparing for changes to Birth Plan A and prepping plans B&C as backup
- Comfort options, the pros and cons of each birth venue available to the pregnant person including; hospital birth, home birth, water and land birth, looking at Rights available to a pregnant and birthing person
- Stages of labour - how to manage and prepare for each
- The golden hour - What is it? How it can encourage the flow of oxytocin and improve overall wellbeing of mother and baby?
- Feeding your baby – Establish exclusive breastfeeding, combi feeding, bottle feeding
Week 3
- Birth partner training - comfort measures, what their role is, how they can support the birthing person
- Relaxation and breath work for labour, how to breathe for contractions/surges, breathing baby down, what is Foetal Ejection Reflex? Techniques for coping with transition
- Pregnancy safe movement/positions for birth
- Guest speaker this week to chat over the benefits of Hypnobirthing
Week 4
- Body changes pre and postnatal, hormonal shift, parental mood and what to look out for
- Body parts, contraception, periods
- Recovery from the birthing experience
